Travel Note

Driving Directions from Southern Maine

Normally travelers take U.S. Route 1 to Ellsworth from southern Maine, but you can avoid coastal congestion by taking the Maine Turnpike to Bangor, then picking up I-395 to Route 1A and continuing south into Ellsworth. Though this is longer in terms of miles, it’s a quicker route in summer. Once you're in Ellsworth, you will want to continue on Route 1 through the towns of Hancock and Sullivan, Maine (approximately 14 miles). To get to Schoodic Point, you will want to take the right hand turn onto ME-186 North, which you want to follow until you reach Schoodic Loop Road in Winter Harbor, Maine. This loop road will become a 1 way traffic loop, which is a scenic ride all the way to the point, where our ceremony will be held. There is a parking area at the point. GoogleMaps is the best source of GPS to Schoodic Point in Winter Harbor, Maine.
