How we met… It was a Thursday afternoon, and Alexa was cooling down on the treadmill after a work out at Anytime Fitness Steinbach when her former trainer and friend Mel came over to say hi. “Would you ever go on a date with a younger guy?” Mel then revealed that her client Shelby, who worked alongside Alexa at Bethesda Hospital’s labour and delivery department, wanted to set Alexa up with her big brother Morgan. Alexa thought for a minute and said, what do I have to lose? So she told Mel to tell Shelby to tell Morgan to text her. The next night, he sent her their first text, asking her to go out for coffee. She didn’t answer for another 36 hours, as she was kept up all night on call for obstetrics (luckily Shelby was there to confirm that she was, indeed, too busy to text back). She finally did text back and they went on their first date to Starbucks a week and a half later. Thanks to nerves on both their parts, Morgan did almost all of the talking, but Alexa liked him enough to give him a chance at a second date. He managed to keep her attention by bringing flowers to their second date, followed by sending another arrangement to the clinic three days later for her birthday. The Proposal Even though there were a few hints that morning (like Morgan going outside to take a phone call from Shelby, him wearing jeans instead of his usual shorts, or his suggestion that she change out of her jean shorts and tank top into a cute dress), Alexa wasn’t expecting the proposal to happen that Saturday afternoon during a trip to Assiniboine Park with Hayden and Shelby. They had a wonderful morning at the zoo, then went over to The Leaf. While walking thru the Mediterranean floral display, Morgan gestured to a plant along the pathway and told Alexa to see what it smelled like. Confused, she went over to the plant to look more closely, giving Morgan enough time to get down on one knee before she turned around. She can’t remember much of what he said, standing in shock and disbelief that this moment was finally here. She eventually did remember to say yes, and the next chapter of our love story began. We are both so excited for our big day on July 10th and can't wait to start our happily ever after in our little white house with the other love of our lives, our kitty cat Gracie.
