An amazing little gem of a vintage shop owned by our friend Violet, tucked away on Bliss Street in Sunnyside. The perfect place to grab a one of a kind souvenir!
Top class wine and tapas bar co-owned by our friend Alexis, newly crowned sommelier of the year. Check out the wine list for a fun time! Super tasty treats, too!
The best burlesque club in town. We went here on our first Valentine's date!
Marvelous tea house with an Alice in Wonderland theme perfect for the young at heart. There is another location at West 73rd if that's more your style.
Beloved goth club, especially on Thursday and Saturday nights. I cannot tell you how many times we've danced here. One time Monica and bridesmaid Justine danced with Amanda Palmer, songstress of The Dresden Dolls (and spouse of Neil Gaiman)!
Boss night club with a gorgeous bar in Brooklyn frequently hosting goth and industrial acts!
Monica and her sister Sarah got to go to a music video release party here for 30 Seconds to Mars (Jared Leto's band) because they were in the music video!
You will find a life sized figure of Regan from The Exorcist nearby a set piece from Blade Runner. Fabulous! Little known fact, Monica has a Bachelor of the Fine Arts in Film and a minor in Philosophy (which is why she makes latex clothing now)!
Darling, it's better down where it's wetter, take it from me. There is a super awesome octopus that lives here. The aquarium has been renovated since Hurricane Sandy and is better than ever! While you're here, check out Coney Island.
Ride the Cyclone for some sweet whiplash and remember to eat a hot dog at Nathan's!
Once the only reliably 24 hour restaurant in NYC, now open until 11pm due to the pandemic. Support Ukraine with a trip to Veselka for borscht so good you'll see stars!
Another former 24 hour restaurant now closing at 11pm due to Covid. Gorgeous french bistro fare, including phenomenal non-alcoholic lemonades and delicious french fries. Monica asked Justine to be her bridesmaid here! She initially referred to the position as 'handmaiden' which mightily confused Justine.
An independent book and staple of the East Village just below Union Square.
Comic book shop with excellent collectibles close by The Strand.
This cinema chain started in Texas, a favorite of Adam and his folks. We were quite excited when a location popped up in Brooklyn! It has an utterly amazing and terrifying bar attached to the lobby called House of Wax, featuring "Anatomical, Pathological & Ethnographic Waxworks from Castan's Panopticum, Berlin, 1869–1922." And now as of fall 2021 there is another brand new Alamo location in downtown Manhattan (Wall Street district) which is also quite nice!
An astonishing source of New York history and priceless fount of the immigrant and migrant stories during the 19th and 20th centuries. Monica's father and his brothers themselves grew up in a tenement on the upper east side!
