Lowell Observatory is a historic astronomical research institution founded in 1894, famous for discovering Pluto in 1930 by Clyde Tombaugh. You can tour the telescope that discovered Pluto, look through telescopes, stargaze and more! This was one of Molly’s favorite date night spots.
The Grand Canyon Deer Farm in Williams, Arizona, is a 10-acre animal park where visitors can walk among and feed deer, along with other animals like wallabies, llamas, and miniature horses. Pro tip: stop here before visiting Bearizona since this is on the way to Bearizona from Flagstaff
Arizona Snowbowl is located on the western slope of Mount Humphreys, the tallest point in the state. While it is a ski resort in the winter months, they offer summer activities, like sunset gondola rides. Tim proposed at the top of Mount Humphreys as we watched the sunset.
Buffalo Park is a free 215-acre park known for its 2.2-mile loop trail offering panoramic views of the San Francisco Peaks, Mount Elden, and the Dry Lake Hills. Great for walking, running, biking, and stargazing. We frequently walked around the park and would bring our telescope out to stargaze at night.
The south rim of the Grand Canyon is about a 1.5-hour drive from Flagstaff. If you haven’t been to the Grand Canyon yet, this would be an awesome day trip that we would highly recommend. This was our first National Park that we went to.
