Question

I am a wedding guest who does not live in Southern California, what should I do?

Answer

You should fly into San Diego on Friday, August 30 (or before). You can either rent a car and drive yourself to and from the Valle or you can take the transportation option we have arranged with Boca Roja Wine Adventures, which will bring you from San Diego to the Valle on Saturday and back to San Diego on Monday. You will be picked up at The Sheraton Hotel and Marina at 11 am Saturday and driven to your respective hotel for check-in (with a stop for tacos on the way!). The same transportation will then bring you from your hotel to the wedding and safely back to your hotel after. On Monday you will be picked up from your hotel at 7 am and brought back to San Diego. The cost for this will be $150 roundtrip per person, paid directly to Boca Roja (see direct link for booking in TRAVEL tab). If you are flying home Monday please book your flight in the EVENING, at least after 3 pm to allow for adequate time to get to the airport, taking into account border crossing wait times.

Answer

If you would like to drive to the Valle, you should either drive down Friday or Saturday and drive back Monday (or whenever you would like). If you would prefer not to drive you can take the transportation option we have arranged with Boca Roja Wine Adventures, which will bring you from San Diego to the Valle on Saturday and back to San Diego on Monday. You will be picked up at the Sheraton Hotel and Marina at 10 am Saturday and driven to your respective hotel for check-in (with a lunch stop for street tacos on the way!).

Question

What is the Valle de Guadalupe?

Answer

The relaxing and low-key Valle de Guadalupe (Guadalupe Valley), located 20 minutes inland of Ensenada, is one of the world's hottest up-and-coming wine regions. Home to over 200 wineries, this region has not yet been completely discovered and still holds rustic charm (and enough dirt roads you may think you are in Iowa!). You will find modern, grandiose wineries next to vineyards that have been family owned for generations. Some of the best restaurants in Mexico can be found here too.

Question

Do I need a passport?

Answer

Yes! All guests must have a valid passport to enter Mexico for our wedding.

Question

I am going to drive down. Do I need international car insurance, where do I cross, and can I drive a rental car into Mexico?

Answer

We use and recommend and Baja Bound for temporary international car insurance in Mexico. For border crossings from San Diego, there are three entries you can use to get to the Valle: San Ysidrio, Garita de Otay and Tecate. We recommend San Ysidrio for entrance, and either Garita de Otay or Tecate for return. And yes you may drive a rental car, but please check verify this with the rental car company prior to booking as some companies do not offer this.

Question

What is it like crossing the border?

Answer

We have never had a wait nor been stopped for a passport check when crossing the border into Mexico. It is very easy and you should be in the Valle within two hours of leaving San Diego, or four hours of leaving LA. Crossing back into the United States can be much more lengthy with border crossing wait times as you will need to stop for a passport check. For anyone flying out of San Diego Monday, we recommend you be checked out and on the way to the border by 8 am to avoid long Labor Day holiday wait times.

Question

Do they accept dollars in the Valle?

Answer

Yes! You need a passport but you don't need to worry about having pesos. US dollars and credit cards are happily accepted at all wineries and establishments in the Valle.
