We matched on the dating app Hinge. Alan was the only person I ever messaged first! Our first date was at a restaurant in Libertyville and lasted seven hours. Our second date was during the worst blizzard of that entire year, where I borrowed my dad's snow-tires to brave the roads and take the 45-minute drive to Alan's apartment.
Considering that most of our friends and family have made the respectable decision to flee the Midwest or never settle here in the first place, we're excited to say that our wedding guests will be coming to Chicago from all across the country and even the world. We're inviting our domestic guests from: Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Arizona, Texas, Colorado, California, Washington, New York, and North Dakota. ...and international guests from: Norway, England, and Spain.
On a typical freezing December night in Chicago, Alan proposed at Smith and Wollensky Steakhouse in Chicago. Initially it almost didn't go as planned when the restaurant's outdoor tent literally collapsed halfway into the Chicago River, but fortunately for them- the river was frozen! After Alan panicked for a solid hour at this news, he received a call that yes, the restaurant was up and running once again. Alan's mom and stepdad also flew in from California for the proposal to take photos and surprise Miriam. They were great sports during the whole thing and hid behind some plants in the restaurant for an impressive amount of time before celebrating with us.
