Nick and Amanda met the fall of 2011, their freshman year at Umass Amherst. Nick's childhood best friend, Caroline introduced them as she lived across the hall from Amanda. After meeting, Nick asked Amanda out and even met her parents that fall, but they decided to stay friends (it was not because of Nick's chinstrap). After a year of being friends, Amanda decided to ask Nick out on date for the second time. The rest is history.

On a freezing but beautiful day in January, Nick got down on one knee at Mackworth Island in Portland to ask Amanda to marry him. Admist the tears, Amanda's response was "Obviously". After the frozen proposal, Nick took Amanda to Bissell Brothers Brewing to surprise her with both sets of parents waiting to celebrate with them.
