You could say it was love at first swipe … We met in 2015 during our senior year at the University of Iowa (go Hawks!) when we both swiped right on Tinder. Kait said she loved Lord of the Rings in her bio, and so Miles started the first conversation with an epic Gandalf quote: “A wizard is never late, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.” We met up at Union in Iowa City (RIP) a few weeks later, and the rest is history!

After almost a decade together, Miles proposed to Kait in October 2022 at Loveland Pass Lake in Colorado. He had been planning an elaborate proposal for several months, zero clues of which Kait picked up on. As we were beginning the hike with Kait’s best friend Marie, Miles let our dogs (Mars and Lola) off their leashes to swim. The dogs got out of the lake soaking wet and starting running towards what Kait thought was someone else’s beautiful proposal setup! She started running to stop them from ruining someone’s proposal, only to realize when she got closer that the setup was for her. After Miles proposed, Kait was even more shocked to see our families were all there to support us. It was perfect.
