Mike knew early on that he would be going to Case Western Reserve University for school, whereas Kaitlin flipped a coin to decide whether to go there or to the University of Oregon. The coin flip brought her to Cleveland! They both got involved in Christian fellowship groups as freshmen and met while planning an Easter celebration. They met up for boba and talked about theology, politics, family life, and played many rounds of Jenga between all the serious talk. Kaitlin distinctly recalls walking through campus with Mike and seeing him stop to pick up litter and throw it away. Another time on her way to class, she passed by him trying to rescue an injured squirrel. It stood out to her how much kindness and integrity Mike has, and how he always strives to do the right thing even when nobody is watching. She would watch him play soccer with their friends and noticed how competitive and skilled he was as a goalkeeper! Mike was attracted to Kaitlin’s kindness for others and willingness to volunteer to do whatever was needed to help out! Mike distinctly remembers thinking, boy she volunteers and does so much that there is no way she’s doing very well in her classes! However, Mike soon found out that in addition to her incredible personality, she was a star student with ambitions to go to Seminary or Medical School. They spent the summer apart praying over their relationship and officially started dating when they returned to campus in the fall of 2016. Since then, they have factored each other into grad school, med school, and residency training decisions. Mike has gotten a job that he loves at Ford after finishing his masters at University of Michigan. They have lived in Ohio, Michigan, and now Rhode Island as Kaitlin continued her medical training. They've met many amazing individuals along the way and are excited to have their favorite people in one place and be able to share their celebration with you!
