How We Met

it's almost unbelievable

We met online, which is fairly common these days. However, the fact that we live in different countries on opposite coasts, makes it a more intriguing story. Tushar (the more tech savvy of the two of us) failed to set a radius, reached out to Michelle by chance, and hit it off immediately. After a few days of chatting, we decided that this could go somewhere and that we should try to meet up. Hilarity ensued as we tried to tell each other which part of town we lived in, not realizing it wasn't the same town (or even state/province, let alone country). Once we realized we were in Seattle and Montreal respectively, we decided that, despite hitting it off and at least being on the same continent, the distance was far too great to try and make a real go of it. We kept in touch and over the years, we got to know each other quite well. Fate didn't seem to feel like the 2,700 miles between us should stop us, as we discovered that we would both be attending weddings in Michigan on the same day - a mere 20 minutes apart! (Shout out to Michelle's friend Anna and Tushar's friend Nate for picking the same wedding date) Not only that, but the day after the weddings was Michelle's birthday! We knew we couldn't ignore this coincidence, so we met up and spent a few days together in Ann Arbor. The rest, as they say, is history!

The Engagement

March 30, 2019

While in Paris, we were staying at an amazing AirBnb right by the Eiffel Tower which Tushar surprised Michelle with. Our second day in Paris began with a perfectly Parisian breakfast that Tushar went out to shop for, some city exploring, followed by a wine and cheese tasting. That evening, we took off on an excursion which Tushar had planned, stopping at local specialty stores to acquire dinner - two bakeries for some bread, a patisserie for dessert, a fromagerie for some cheese, a charcuterie for some cured meats, and a wine store to complete the perfect ensemble. When we got back to our AirBnb, we prepared all of our newly acquired goodies and set out to eat on the patio with a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower. Tushar seemed a little panicked when the lights on the tower were out, but Google informed us it was "Earth Hour" and that the lights would be back on soon. After our delicious meal, we stepped back inside and took a break before dessert to watch an episode of This is Us. When it was done, Tushar got Michelle a bag of ice for her feet which were still adjusting to some new shoes. He said, "You need to keep that ice on for 10 minutes, which is when the Eiffel Tower will be sparkling. That's your timer." Michelle sat on the bed with the ice on her feet, scrolling through her phone until she saw the sparkling, When she stepped out of the bedroom, there was a trail of rose petals leading to the patio. Michelle made her way to Tushar through the rose petals and lit candles and he got down on one knee with a beautiful ring in hand. After a very excited and enthusiastic YES!, we popped some champagne and enjoyed our patisseries in the light of the Eiffel Tower.
