We’ve decided to postpone our May 30th wedding celebration. While it breaks our hearts to not celebrate with you on that day, we feel it is in everyone’s best interest and safety to postpone our celebration. We are planning to have a reception with all of you later this year or next spring.
John was volunteering at Kiva while Emily was interning there. Fast forward five days to a karaoke bar celebrating Kiva Fellow Graduation: John caught Emily performing "I will survive" on video and she thought she'd give him her number to control the blackmail. 8 months of near-constant emails found Emily and John on their second date in rural Senegal. 18 months of long distance across 4 continents, and they finally found themselves not only on the same continent, or the same country, or the same city, but the same apartment.
Emily thought they were camping for two nights in the Mt Hood Wilderness. John had other plans. After a grueling hike to McNeil Point, John tried to pop the question, but as soon as he got to one knee, Emily screamed "&#@% YES!". They headed back to Portland for "fancy date night" to find Emily's parents and John's mom at their house, waiting to celebrate their love for the whole weekend.
