Meredith & Rob met on a crisp, cool, Ann Arbor fall evening in October 2015 at, of all places, a Greek Life mixer between Phi Sigma Alpha (Rob’s Fraternity) and Alpha Gamma Delta (Meredith’s Sorority). The mixer was pajama themed. Despite Meredith’s natural tendencies to dress to theme, she, in this case, had little interest in attending the event – one of her sorority sisters insisted she come. So, Meredith came “just as she was”, glistening with sweat after just finishing a workout. What drew Rob to Meredith all those years ago remains a mystery. The two hit it off over their love of food. As the event wrapped up, Rob asked Meredith: “Would you want to come back to my place? I’ve got some root beers!” As Rob quickly realized his intentions came out wrong, he recovered by saying: “It’s such a nice night. Let’s enjoy the root beers outside on the front steps of my building!” So, Meredith cautiously accepted the invitation; on the stipulation that the two of them would solely remain on the stoop of his building. The night ended with the two of them toasting “cheers” with a pair of root beers. Since that initial toast of cheers, Meredith and Rob began seeing each other. Less than two months later, Rob made things “official” on December 11. Their relationship has continued, unabated, for nearly 10 years since those fateful early days, withstanding multiple substantial stretches of long-distance relationship and tumultuous times in work (Rob) and school (Meredith). They still learn new things about each other all the time, and hope to continue trying to unwrap the mystery of the other as they move into the next stage of their journey together.
