Hands on help is welcome! You can sign up here: https://tinyurl.com/zmweddinghelp We have a small registry on this site, but we do have just about all the kitchen gadgets and housewares we could dream of. We set up two funds on this site for our honeymoon and home renovations. You can give through the site or more directly. Thank you!
If you are on this site, you're invited. If you're unable to officially RSVP because maybe your name was mistyped or Melissa was too scatterbrained to add every name despite having thought of you numerous times, just show up! The ceremony is standing only (unless you requested seating in the RSVP or bring your own), but it will be short and sweet! We do expect this to be a smaller event than the reception, so unless you're one of those sappy types who loves a ceremony, don't feel like you have to be there. The reception is a more casual format with no assigned seating or plated dinner. There will be snacks and drinks and games and dancing and fun. And cake. What that means is we guessed at a number in the very beginning and accept that we can't really know who will show up, so we must embrace the uncertainty.
Melissa's response to this is "Juneau Cocktail" but for those who have not been to a Juneau wedding before, just know that someone will likely show up in a floor-length gown and someone will certainly show up in rubber boots. Dress in a way that you feel comfortable and confident and maybe a little fancy? Color is encouraged! It may rain. It will probably rain. We hear that's good luck. "Smart layering" is recommended, including a rain jacket if you have one, but we inherited a bin of umbrellas so we'll have you covered, literally, if you need it.
You'll find dice and score cards at every table for this fun and simple game. Each round, each player must fill in a score anywhere on the score card — the specifics are on the score cards. There are five dice and a turn consists of up to three rolls (in the second and third rolls, you can roll any number of the dice) with the goal of maximizing your overall score. Yahtzee is the best outcome, with all five dice identical. With the exception of Yahtzee, you can only roll any given "hand" once. If you have nothing, you'll have to take a zero somewhere. Feel free to ask for more explicit instructions (or google them) or advice on strategy. House rules dictate you must sing a portion of the Full House theme song if you score a Full House. Why Yahtzee? Zach and Melissa found a used Yahtzee set at a thrift store and played through the entire score card pad, despite ending up playing countless games via video chat with a spreadsheet Melissa concocted, they had to buy a new score card pad to feed the Yahtzee habit. And now they've even printed custom score cards like real maniacs.
We are lovers of gluten and committed omnivores, but we respect the dietary restrictions and preferences of our friends and family so while the cake will be full of gluten and butter and eggs, there will be some French macarons, which are naturally gluten-free, and there will be snacks and canapés to meet most, if not all, needs.
Weddings are complicated events! We went a very DIY route and set a tight budget because we want to maximize fun and minimize starting our future with staggering debt. You'll notice a lot of hand-made elements, like paper flowers, crafty centerpieces, painted leather dice trays and more, all made by Melissa and friends, including Brooke (and some child labor), the Foul Weather Friends craft crew, including Heidi, Catherine, Zu, Meredith and Lindy, plus petal cutting machine Carl, and whoever else gets put to work on decorations in the days leading up to the wedding (Mike is surprisingly great at paper poppies). Lots of friends helped with setup and running around. Melissa's dress was made by Opalheart designer and Juneau gal Shea Zahedi (nee Wilcox). Zach's dapper suit was custom made and ordered through Etsy. Melissa’s hair was done by Tiffany of Bombshell Boutique Salon. Earrings came from Wolfsong Wellness. The necklace is the something borrows and old, from Grammalaine. Memorial bracelets by Gems & Juniper, who is a gem herself and fit us in with so little time to spare. Melissa made the cake because of course she did. Family and friends were voluntold to assemble grazing boards and Gold Creek Café and Catering is behind the fancier canapés. Zerelda’s Bistro made some gluten-free cookies. The wines and bubbly are Kirkland's finest, but we did splurge on some beer from Barnaby Brewing, where we had our first date. You'll also find Juneau favorite Vitamin R, plus non-alcoholic options including store brand flavored seltzers, sparkling cider for a toast and juice. Juneau has great water, straight from the tap, too. Despite best efforts, entertainment fell to DJ Spotify. There have been jokes about an open mic. Kristen is officiating the ceremony and Christine volunteered to do day of coordinating which might qualify her for sainthood. Special thanks again to Carl and Heidi for having the right items and skills and coming through.
