In Turkey, wedding ceremonies and receptions are often held at the same venue, creating a seamless celebration. Guests traditionally dress very formally, with elegant attire, styled hair, full makeup, and statement jewelry—making it the perfect occasion to really dress up. The ceremony itself is typically brief and is officiated by a nikah memuru (official wedding registrar), with two witnesses standing alongside the bride and groom. The reception that follows is lively and celebratory, featuring traditional Turkish music and dancing. In some cases, the groom may even arrive in a festive convoy prior to the ceremony. Guests can expect an energetic atmosphere with music, dancing, and rich cultural traditions. As Melissa is also Mexican American, there will be meaningful cultural touches woven throughout the day, making the celebration even more special.
In keeping with Turkish cultural customs and the Çiçek family preferences, alcohol will not be served at the wedding venue. Post-celebration gatherings with alcohol consumption are currently being considered and will be shared once finalized.
The dress code is formal summer attire. Guests are encouraged to wear elegant, breathable outfits such as floor-length gowns or refined dressy separates made from lightweight fabrics. The goal is to balance sophistication with comfort, while avoiding anything overly casual or revealing. Elegant heels and fine jewelry are encouraged, and guests are welcome to dress either modestly or in a more modern style. Please refer to your invitation, which will indicate whether a plus one has been included.
Due to venue limitations, we kindly ask that our celebration be adults-only, although exceptions may be considered, especially for international guests. Guests aged 15 to 18 are welcome to attend, provided they are able to participate respectfully and comfortably in the event. Please reach out to Melissa for extra considerations.
The wedding will be held outdoors. We recommend wearing sunscreen, sunglasses, or other sun protection for your comfort.
September in Istanbul is typically pleasant and mild, with daytime temperatures in the upper 70s°F and evenings in the low 60s°F. Guests can expect warm, breezy, and sunny conditions with a low chance of rain.
Yes, guests are welcome to take photos during and after the ceremony.
In Turkish tradition, couples are usually gifted gold or monetary contributions rather than physical items. We completely understand that many guests will already be traveling a long distance, and gifts are by no means expected. For those who wish to participate, gold coins can be found at the Grand Bazaar, or guests may contribute any amount of money they feel comfortable or able to provide. Gifts are traditionally presented during the Takı Töreni (gold ceremony), where they are pinned onto a red ribbon. Feel free to use the registry if you would prefer.
