Things To Do

We will have you pretty jam packed schedule wise, so please plan an additional day or 2 if you would like to do some real sight seeing! However, you may have some downtime between events to explore Baton Rouge a little. Here are some of our favorite places in The Red Stick! We have plenty more, but just couldn't fit them all, so just ask if you need more suggestions on things to do! For those of you who may be spending some time in NOLA, we did our best to point out just a few of our favorite spots in the Big Easy as well that we think you'd love. There, of course, is TONS more to do and we'd be happy to help you plan a couple days in New Orleans if you need more suggestions!
Coffee Call

Coffee Call

3132 College Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70808
, (225) 925-9493

A delicious spot for freshly made beignets! You may have some downtime between events to refresh with some beignets and Cafe Au Lait!

The Chimes

The Chimes

3357 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70802
, (225) 383-1754

This is our go to restaurant to take out-of-town guests to experience some authentic Cajun cuisine in a low key setting! There are two locations, but the location on Highland is set right outside the LSU campus and has great rooftop seating. The restaurant does not take reservations, but there is rarely a long wait.

Louisiana State University

Louisiana State University

Baton Rouge, LA 70803
, (225) 578-3202

Maybe a little bias here since this is where the entire Theegala family attended college, but LSU has one of the most beautiful college campuses in the US with its rich oak trees. Plus, we have a live mascot, Mike the Tiger, who lives on campus! We actually spent part of our first date visiting Mike since Zach had never seen him! If you have some downtime, we definitely recommend a quick visit.

Downtown

Downtown

Baton Rouge, LA

If you want to take a stroll around downtown BR, there are tons of bars, restaurants, and historical buildings to check out! You're also a short walk away from the Mississippi River levee which is a beautiful place to walk especially when the sun is setting! The USS Kidd is parked along the levee and can be toured as well. If you have the time, you can park on River road and take a stroll down North Blvd. The Old State Capital and Governor's Mansion (where we took our engagement pictures) are absolutely stunning pieces of architecture with rich history. You can also visit the current State Capital is also a walkable distance away. As for bars and restaurants, we have a couple recommendations so reach out to us if you need some advice!

Tsunami Sushi Baton Rouge

Tsunami Sushi Baton Rouge

100 Lafayette Street, Baton Rouge, LA 70801
, (225) 346-5100

An upscale Japanese restaurant with gorgeous views over the city and Mississippi River.

French Quarter

French Quarter

New Orleans, LA

As you know, this is one of NOLA's most historic and well known neighborhoods. The French Quarter is considered the cultural heart of NOLA with rich history, stunning architecture and lively culture that you just can't find anywhere else in the US! There is nothing but genuine Louisiana charm here. Located in the heart of New Orleans, it is absolutely worth the visit if you've never visited before even if to just take a stroll. We promise you will find TONS to do and see without any planning! Everything is walkable distance in this area. Jackson Square located directly in front of the St. Louis Cathedral. Jackson Square is home to an open air market of street performers, artists, and jazz musicians. A few of the "things to do" listed below are located in or around the French Quarter.

Cafe Du Monde French Market

This is definitely one of the places your friends back home are going to ask if you visited while in NOLA

St. Louis Cathedral

St. Louis Cathedral

615 Pere Antoine Alley, New Orleans, LA 70116
, (504) 525-9585

Located in the French Quarter, the St. Louis Cathedral is the oldest Roman Catholic Cathedral in the US. Definitely worth the visit even if you can't go inside.

Bourbon Street

Bourbon Street

Located in the French Quarter and walking distance from most of our other recommended "things to do." Don't think we need to explain this one...just be safe and take a buddy!
