Pellikuthuru Function

11:00 am - 2:30 pm

The dress code for this event is dressy casual/garden attire or traditional Indian attire.

The Pellikuthuru / Pellikuduku function is an important first step in Hindu weddings and signals the start of wedding festivities. During this ceremony, the bride (the pellikuthuru) and groom (the pellikuduku) are surrounded by their friends and family to get them ready for their upcoming wedding. The couple is covered in turmeric and sandalwood powder by guests to bless them in their future marriage. The couple is then presented as being ready for marriage! A vegetarian, alcohol-free luncheon will be served as tradition following auspicious events.

Welcome Event-Mehndi Function

6:00 pm

Lsu Agcenter Botanic Gardens
4560 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge, LA 70809

The dress code for this event is festive cocktail attire or Indian attire. Mehndi parties are colorful, vibrant events! We absolutely encourage fun colors and patterns. Please see our FAQ for more details.

The Mehndi Function is our last pre-wedding event before our big day and is essentially a big, colorful party to kick off our wedding! Traditionally, the Mehndi ceremony used to be an intimate gathering where the bride would have her bridal henna done which could take several hours. However, in the recent years, in order for the bride to be able to fully enjoy her guests and not be out of commission for hours, brides now get their mehndi done before the party! We are transforming our Mehndi Function into a cocktail style event for guests to socialize and let loose! This is a great opportunity for us to spend some quality time with all of our guests traveling from near and far before things get crazy on the big day. We will have a henna artist at the event for guests to get their henna/mehndi done! It can be tricky to eat with henna on your hands so we recommend only having it applied to one hand OR making sure your date doesn't mind being your personal butler for the night!

Hindu Ceremony

9:30 am

Guests can choose to wear either Indian or semi-formal Western attire. If you would like to wear an Indian outfit and are not sure what to wear or where to purchase clothes, we'd be more than happy to help out!

Traditionally, in Hindu weddings the exact time and date of the marriage ceremony is decided by the alignment of the stars and planets. A priest maps the bride and groom's horoscopes and decides when the most auspicious time to tie the knot is! Tea and coffee will be served during the ceremony. The Hindu ceremony will be followed by a vegetarian luncheon, as tradition following religious ceremonies.

The dress code for this event is black-tie optional/creative black-tie optional/Indian attire: Dark suites or tuxedos are encouraged for gents and mid to floor length gowns or Indian attire is encouraged for the ladies.
