Travel Note

A Note on airbnb and VRBOs

Old Town is just that- old! Large houses to share with more than 3 bedrooms are very few and far between so you may struggle to find good options. If you expand your search, be prepared to rely on uber/lyft for transportation. Most of the areas nearby in Virginia are safe and easily accessible via rideshare or public transportation, but we do not recommend staying in the areas in DC and Maryland across the Potomac (ie Oxon Hill, Congress Heights, Anacostia etc.)

Flight

Flying into the DC area

Three major airports serve the DC area. See below for a brief guide on your flight options. In ranked order by proximity to "wedding central" in Old Town Alexandria: 1. Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) - by far the closest and most convenient option to get to Alexandria. Travel to Old Town Alexandria: 3 stops on the metro or a 10 minute Lyft. 2. Washington Dulles (IAD) - pretty far from Alexandria and DC but this airport is now connected to the DC metro system so it is still a good option if flights to Dulles are significantly cheaper. Travel to Old Town Alexandria: 22 stops on the metro with 1 transfer or a ~45 minute Lyft (be aware that rideshares from Dulles can be fairly expensive) 3. Baltimore (BWI)- technically an accessible option but it's a significant trek. Travel to Old Town Alexandria: 1 MARC train to Union Station in DC ($8 and approximately 45 minutes) and then 11 stops on the metro with 1 transfer.
