Between ice skating and sleigh rides, this is a really great spot for kids! It's also extremely close to our venue, an easy place to stop in and explore.
The annual Tuckerman's Inferno race is happening on the same day of our wedding! If you're looking for something to do before the wedding, head over to Pinkham's Notch visitors center to watch the racers cross the finish line or hike up to Tuckerman's yourself to watch them ski down the race course! Either way, it's a really cool event and worth checking out.
If you'd like a trip into Fitzgerald family past, take a walk down the streets of North Conway hitting up all the cute little stores! Pop into the 5 and Dime for cute trinkets and toys, check out the Penguin Shop for fun gadgets, swing into the Met for a coffee, and most importantly stop at Zebs General Store! We used to get dollar candy and paper airplanes here as kids, but it's a fun store for all ages with all types of general store goodies. Also highly recommend the huge playground across the street for burning off the sugar.
If you know Meaghan and Henry then you know we LOVE a thrift shopping trip. If you have some time to kill over the weekend, we highly recommend exploring the thrift stores in the area as there's quite the selection. Our favorite find so far is the basement of International Mountain Equipment (right on the main drag in North Conway)! Down there you can find racks and racks of used outdoor gear! We've collected all sorts of items from this store (from crampons to fleeces) and highly recommend checking it out.
Check out the scenic Kancamagus Highway! You can drive this on your way in or out if you'd like to take a more adventurous drive. Definitely check the weather in advance as the roads can be a bit sketchy if it's very icy or snowy. Points of interest are: 1) Lincoln - starting point and cute little ski town to stock up on gas and coffee, can also stop in at the Ranger Station here to ask about conditions of the road and thiking trail status. 2) Sabbaday Falls - (weather permitting, the falls area may be closed) but the trail is typically open year round and is a good place to get a bit of easy hiking and stretch the legs. 3) Rocky Gorge - open year round, easy accessibility and some may say it's Gorge-eous. 4) Covered Bridge - gotta see it!
Nice spot for a short hike and get to see some waterfalls. Also extremely close to our venue.
The cog railway is open and winter although it doesn't go all the way up Mt Washington this time of year. Great option if you have kids and want to try something new, BUT we also highly recommend this for anyone who wants to try backcountry skiing! There are two options 1) You can get a ride up the train and hike up a little or just ski down from there (fun fact, if you choose this option they'll let you ride train twice since it's technically a two way ticket!) 2) Skin up from the bottom! This is a very beginner friendly trail since it's just straight and very maintained conditions due to train proximity (although it is steep and your quads will be burning). Go as high up as you can, maybe summit Washington if you're feeling very intense! But just making it up to the ladder is a huge accomplishment. If you need gear, we recommend renting from White Mountain Ski Co as they have uphill equipment. Check weather and make sure you have proper gear before attempting.
