This beach is great for sun tans, and warm waters. When you get hungry or thirsty, walk over to Magic's Beach Grill for lunch, drinks, or an açaí bowl.
Take a short hike to the Captain Cook Monument and get an awesome view of the bay. Be sure to bring a swimsuit and your snorkel to swim with tropical fish and see the coral reef. Sometimes, you can spot manta rays, honu (turtles), and dolphins! Be careful not to get too close as they're protected creatures!
Visit two of the biggest active volcanoes in the world! After recently erupting in 2018, the park had been closed off due to safety reasons. Currently, there are things available to see, like the lava tube. Look at the website to get details at the time of your visit. We love the steam vents and the guided hiking trail that tells you about the volcanoes!
Enjoy the historical Hamakua Coast on your drive up to Akaka Falls, one of the beautiful waterfalls of many on the Big Island. Take a walk through the park that makes you feel like you're in a tropical jungle, and find a stunning view of the waterfall at the end.
Enjoy sweeping views of the ocean, deep valley, and cliffs from an elevated perspective. If you rented a Jeep or 4x4 capable car, off-roading down into the valley will bring you to a beautiful black sanded beach at the end of the valley.
Mauna Kea is a dormant volcano and is the highest point in Hawaii. Most of the volcano sits under water, but it is the tallest mountain in the world! 4x4 up to the summit, where you'll stand at over thirteen thousand feet in elevation, and above the clouds. Some of the worlds strongest telescopes sit at the summit, and examine the heavens. Pack a warm jacket if you plan to visit Mauna Kea, it snows way up there!
