How We Met

December 31st, 2018

We met at a 2018 New Year's Eve party! Alex started talking about his job as a mental health counselor and Julia shared her progress in graduate school applications for school counseling. After seeing we shared such similar interests and values, the conversation kept going and getting better and better! Alex nerded out a little talking about student loans, but Julia found it very endearing. Alex was impressed with Julia's travels, which is convenient because, of course, Julia didn't mind a willing ear to hear her stories. Some people might not believe in love at first sight, but Julia and Alex could not wait to see each other again. That New Year's was the first night of the rest of our lives. Happiness together has continued to grow ever since. What a perfect way to ring in the new year!

Our Engagement

June 24th, 2021

Alex and Julia were in New Hampshire visiting her parents and decided to go on a hike up Mt. Kearsarge with her brother, Conor, and his dog, Strider. It was getting a little late so Julia suggested they go the next day, but everyone kept pushing it. In retrospect, they were all acting a little weird, but that’s not unusual for this crew, so Julia didn’t think anything of it. Alex was very protective of the backpack the whole way up, which Julia just thought was another fit of chivalry on his part. Finally, we got to the top where we spread some of Alex’s dad’s ashes. It was a very special place to spread his ashes; not only is it an incredible view, but it was also one of the first hikes Alex and Julia did together. As some of you may know, hiking, camping, and all things outdoors are some of our favorite things to do together. Once we were done, Julia started to walk away but realized Conor was filming and turned around to see Alex on one knee. She might have blacked out a little from excitement, but it was all good because of course she said yes! After celebrating at the top, we started the descent down the mountain. About halfway down at Pride Rock (affectionately named by the McGuire family after the Lion King), Julia's parents, Jim and Ann, surprised them with a celebration of Cheez-its and Champagne! It was so nice to be surrounded by family and love to celebrate such an exciting time in our lives!
