Our Love Story

Jack and Miranda’s story started, of all places, at a celebration of life. It was the summer of 2018, and the McBride family had opened their home to honor the memory of Jack’s Uncle Robert - a man who had been like family to Miranda for as long as she could remember. Her dad and Robert had been best friends since childhood, and their families had long been woven together. And yet, somehow, Jack and Miranda had never met. That day changed everything. Miranda was a little worse for wear from a fun night out; Jack, on the other hand, had started celebrating early and was feeling pretty cheerful. They were opposites in the moment, but their orbits kept crossing. In fact, they were introduced - and reintroduced - several times, thanks in part to what may or may not have been an attempted parental setup. One of those early encounters included a moment in the kitchen. Miranda, feeling a little rough from the night before, spotted a pan of brownies on the counter and moved in for what she hoped would be a comforting bite - only to be startled by Jack suddenly shouting from behind, “Wait - don’t eat those! They’re Grandma Bobby’s!” His tone was part alarm, part mischief. But he wasn’t being dramatic for effect: he carried a warning rooted in family history. The brownies weren’t just unlikely to taste good - they might not even be edible, considering Grandma Bobby’s infamous culinary reputation. It was the first moment he made her laugh, but definitely not the last. After that day, Jack did a little family networking and tracked Miranda down. She was living out of town that summer, working in the Bay Area, but he asked her to meet up for a movie date one weekend when she was back in his hometown. Before the movie, she stopped by the McBride house - and as soon as Jack’s dad saw her, he said, “I’m calling your dad. Townsend isn’t going to believe this.” Miranda blushed. She hadn’t exactly told her family she was going on a date with *the* Jack McBride. From there, things just kept unfolding. Jack visited Miranda in the Bay every chance he could get. On one of their early outings at a Giants game, she spilled hot chocolate on her white jersey and was mortified. Jack didn’t miss a beat - he teased her with a grin (“Oh no! Looks like you’ve got a hole in your lip!”) and helped her clean it up. It was in those playful moments that they realized how easily they connected, and they both knew this was going to be more than a summer fling. At the end of that summer, during a trip to Carmel, Jack asked Miranda to be his girlfriend - right there on the iconic 18th hole at Pebble Beach. The two became inseparable. They started weaving their lives together, visiting each other, sharing friendships, and supporting one another through school and daily life. Their families welcomed it all with open arms. Over time, the connection between them felt less like chance and more like something inevitable. As Miranda’s dad liked to say - half-joking, fully serious - they were finally uniting the clans. And not just in name. The Townsends and the McBrides had circled each other for years, but this time, it was fate that called them to the table. Six years later, on September 7, 2024, Jack brought it full circle. At sunset on the same 18th hole where it all began, he asked Miranda to marry him. It was thoughtful, simple, and perfect. They often say they were brought together by a mix of timing, family, and a few mysterious cosmic nudges - Uncle Robert included. However it happened, they’re endlessly grateful that it did. And on May 16, 2026, they’ll officially unite the clans, forever.
