Ryan and Maura met on a dating app called Hinge where they connected through the shared belief that the most underrated candy of all-time was the Tootsie Roll. After a few back and forth messages, they agreed to meet in-person at Kooper's Tavern in Fells Point, Baltimore for a quick drink on an August Tuesday night. Maura was busy all morning, nervously setting up her new classroom back in Carroll County, and she mindlessly forgot to pack more presentable clothes for their date. She would have to wear what she had on: not an ounce of make-up on her sweat-dried skin, hair in a bun, black spandex bike shorts, and an XL Jonathan Schoop Orioles t-shirt. Devastated and considerably embarrassed, she texted Ryan to say she was on her way and and apologized for her outfit, explaining that she didn't want to seem uninterested. Ryan, the good egg that he is, said it was perfectly fine as he swapped out his collared button-down for a t-shirt to match the informality. Maura had one rule for this date: don't scare him away with talking about teaching grammar. And as the Fates had it, in fact, she did talk about teaching grammar, which he loved. Maura and Ryan felt like they had known each other for years. As an hour passed with easy conversation and laughs, Maura told Ryan that she had to leave to meet her friend, Josh, for the weekly Pub Trivia event at Don't Know Tavern. Not wanting the date to end, Maura invited Ryan to tag along, and he accepted after some convincing. Upon arriving, introductions took place; small talk over loaded crab tots revealed that Ryan and Josh were both computer connoisseurs, creating a moment of jargon-ous exchanges. Each round passed, and the team quickly gained a rhythm. General knowledge? The team swept up the points. The musical round? No sweat--Maura had musical recall like the Shazam app. Alas, the final trivia question was upon them; they wagered their points and accepted their fates. Ryan turned around in his chair to watch the question appear on the TV screen as Josh straightened his body and stretched his neck to find the screen. The question asked for teams to write out the six listed computer data storage amounts in order from least to greatest. Maura flashed a smile and took a long sip of her beer. However, Josh and Ryan's heads whipped back around to the table, their bodies leaning into the secret they both knew-- the secret that was revealed within the list of data terms displayed on the TV. In unison, (I cannot stress this enough) in unison, Josh and Ryan fervently whispered in the collective circle of heads: "It's already in order!!" Someone scribbled down the list on the team's small whiteboard, handed in the final answer, and ended up in 2nd place that night. As a public school teacher and undergraduate on summer vacation, the night ended with "Are you free tomorrow?" Their relationship became the second date that never ended, and they can't wait to celebrate their third date with you on October 12th!
