Our wedding is at The Elms Hotel in Excelsior Springs, Missouri, a small town 30 minutes from downtown Kansas City and 40 minutes from the Kansas City International Airport. There's A LOT to do at The Elms: a beautiful spa, multiple good food options, pools, lawn games, lovely indoor and outdoor seating, ghost tours (!), historic rooms and plaques. Check out where Harry Truman stayed during election night in 1948, or where Al Capone hosted poker parties in the hotel! Our plan is to hang out with everyone and eat, play, swim, and schmooze throughout the weekend :)
Excelsior Springs is a very cute small, rural town 30 minutes from downtown Kansas City. We recommend checking out Downtown Excelsior Springs, a small street with cute shops and restaurants just a few minute walk from The Elms. Some restaurants to check out: Wabash BBQ for good Kansas City barbecue, Ventana Gourmet Grill, Pho House Vietnamese Noodle Bar, and Dubious Claims Brewing Company. There are a few other popular breweries and wineries nearby! If you're looking for other things to do around the hotel, check out the hiking and walking trails nearby (https://visitexcelsior.com/trails/). We especially recommend Siloam Mountain Trail, which is walking distance from The Elms (https://www.kansascityhiker.com/clay-county-hikes/excelsior-springs-mo-trail-system).
We love Kansas City! If you have time to drive over to the city, there are lots of fun things to do. For places to explore, we highly recommend Country Club Plaza (lots of great restaurants, shops, and a beautiful place to walk around), the Crossroads (great restaurants, coffee shops, and bars), and Loose Park (huge park with a pretty pond, nice trails, and many friendly dogs). If you want to explore some museums, check out the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum, the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and the very fun National Museum of Toys and Miniatures. There are too many great restaurants in Kansas City to recommend-- but if you have the chance, be sure to get some Kansas City barbecue (some classic places are Q39, Joe's Kansas City BBQ, and Jack Stack). And you can't go wrong with squeezing in a Chiefs or Royals game into the wedding weekend!
