The Historic "Black Hotel" where Barry Gordy, Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, Joe Louis, Jackie Robinson, Nat king Cole, and other black celebrities would stay when visiting (Muhammad Ali actually lived and trained in Miami). While Miami Beach was in the spotlight for its musicians and nightclub acts, it was Liberty City and the Hampton House that the black performers returned to when the show was over. This historical hotspot has been brought back to life and is a must-see museum for anyone interested in learning more about Miami's huge role in defining the Civil Rights Movement and Black America's culture.

Featured in the Oscar winning film "Moonlight," -- this beach is a hidden gem and a cherished spot for black Miami. A great stop to get away from the crowds for a swim, and to appreciate a piece of the city's history. The drive to it is also breathtaking. Historic Virginia Key Beach Park, located off the Rickenbacker Causeway, is just minutes away from Miami’s downtown. It is historically known as the "Black Beach", and was long the only beach available to African-Americans living in Miami (despite black men providing a third of the signatures needed to officially charter the city of Miami).
