This is the story of a man, Bryan, and a woman, Lindsay, and just how the two fell in love. In the spring of 2021, Lindsay Aljian knew she needed a change. A young woman from Fresno, California, she had already lived a life of excitement – working in far-flung places like Disney World, Yosemite, and Bilbao, Spain. Sadly, her travels in Europe had been cut short by the global pandemic, and as the new year rolled over she felt the itch of adventure once again. Leaving her beloved cat Louie behind, she seized a new opportunity: Grand Canyon National Park. It didn't take long for her to fall in love with her new home. And after only a month, she met someone new: Bryan Maul, a Park Ranger who had just arrived for his fourth season at the canyon. Chatting over Bumble, he charmed her with a tale of getting trapped in a cemetery, and she agreed on a date. Despite realizing she'd been “hatfished,” Lindsay had a delightful time, and a second date followed — and a third, and a fourth. Their summer romance was an emotional one. Bryan's dog Buddy passed away, Lindsay lost her gallbladder, and an ill-conceived trip to the North Rim and Arches National Park could have ended far worse than it did. At the end, Bryan promised that he would return in only six months—but it was a promise he couldn't keep. Instead, the two were forced to be long-distance, seeing each other as often as they could. Forced by circumstance to travel, they made the most of it—visiting places like Death Valley, Philadelphia, the Everglades, Saguaro National Park, and many others. In August of 2022 they rented a camper van and traveled through Yosemite, camping in the valley and driving Tioga Pass. But while these trips were wonderful, it wasn't the same as living in the same place. Around Christmas 2022, Bryan received an offer for a permanent position at Pearl Harbor National Memorial in Hawaii, and asked Lindsay if she would come with him. She said yes, and together they planned a new journey. To reach Hawaii they would travel across deserts, over London Bridge, through a snow-covered Joshua Tree National Park, and along California's coast. But they made it, and arrived in Honolulu on March 6th, 2023. Hawaii was a much different place than either Lindsay or Bryan had lived before. They both missed the family and friends they'd left behind, and especially the great ditch. But they had each other, and loved finally being together after so much time apart. They loved each other so much that, in September, Bryan asked Lindsay to marry him. And once again, she said yes. The life of a park ranger is full of unknowns, and neither Lindsay or Bryan quite know where they'll end up next. But there is one thing they do know: They'll be returning to Grand Canyon on May 17th, 2025, to be pronounced Husband and Wife. And they are so excited for you to join them.
