Jackie "smiled" at Matt via eHarmony in March of 2016 and we immediately clicked. We met that weekend at a local Starbucks and what started as a cup of coffee turned in to lunch and hours spent talking and getting to know one another. We bonded immediately over our mutual love for movies (especially Back to the Future!), crafts and music. By the end it was clear we'd found something special. We made a date for the following Friday where Matt took Jackie to dinner and walked around his favorite town - Old Ellicott City. We finished the evening on the bridge entering the city where we took our first picture together. Ever since that night Old Ellicott City has been a very special town and place for us. Over the next year we had amazing adventures camping, hiking, taking pictures, making DIY projects and watching our favorites movies together.

We spent the next year traveling near and far - Matt always wanted to visit Rome and Jackie was thrilled to return to Paris when Matt's sister Rachel invited us to join her briefly on her dream trip in the fall of 2018. We spent a few days in Paris where we ate dinner overlooking the back of Notre Dame listening to the bells chiming and went to the top of the Eiffel Tower enjoying ice cream as we walked back down the stairs. After leaving Paris we spent two weeks in Rome visiting all of the amazing monuments, touring the Vatican and eating all the cheese, pizza and gelato we could! We've also spent time relaxing on the beach in Florida, driving around Maine and seeing the top of Cadillac Mountain, touring Salem, MA at Halloween and have made several trips to Boston to visit Jackie's brother Jordan. Last year we also went to Iceland where we rented a car and drove around the Golden Circle seeing as many waterfalls as we could and warming up in the famed Blue Lagoon! We love traveling together and can't wait to have more adventures in the years to come!

Two years to the day from when Jackie smiled at Matt he took her to the bridge where we took our first photo on our first date. He stopped at the exact spot and suggested that we take another photo. He placed a phone on the ledge and set a timer counting down from 10. When the timer hit one, he got down on one knee, brought a beautiful ring out and asked to be hers "and that's it forever". Jackie was thrilled and accepted with tears in her eyes. Unknown to Matt - Jackie had known about the ring from the moment he bought it over 6 months previously! They share location on Google Maps & Jackie happened to pull it up & saw Matt at a jewelry store! As if that weren't curious enough, Jackie also shares location with her best friend Laura and her husband Greg. They were at the same spot! Knowing if Laura knew, all her fiends knew too, Jackie had no choice but to keep quiet and only confided in her friend Rabia & her mom (who she later learned also knew!). She spent 6 months wondering if the next big holiday or event would be "the day"! As their anniversary approached Jackie had a small idea that their trip to OEC may be more than a visit to the "Ellicott City Spring Fest" that Matt claimed. While walking to the bridge, Jackie stopped at the spot she thought was where they'd taken their first photo thinking that's where Matt would ask. Matt meanwhile was cool & confident & didn't let on anything was out of the ordinary about the day. He kept walking & Jackie thought "if he were going to do it it would have been here, so it's not today!" so put it out of her mind. Matt ultimately led Jackie to the real photo spot and surprised her with the ring! Why did he wait so long? Matt knew he wanted the ring to be as special as our relationship. He chose two aquamarine stones - the March birthstone - to represent the day we met and the day we got engaged. The diamond in the middle also happens to be the April birthstone which is the anniversary of our first date.
