In fifth grade, we submitted the following entries into a county-wide poetry competition. One of us came in first, and the other won a begrudging second.

Scarlet Fox

Scarlet Fox Sprinting in the moonlight Dodging through the shadows Dashing through my sight Jump here and there, to and fro Searching for the unknown Sprinting through the thicket Silent, calm, and lone Fur so beautiful Mind so cunning But only a glimpse you can see For Scarlet Fox is running

White Raven

White feathers spread so gently, Wings glide in air so evenly. Beak as determined as it is sharp, Eyes as gentle as song of harp. Only I glanced at the sky. Although I see the raven bird, His beautied squawk is not yet heard. Fast as a falcon, In the blink of an eye… Disappears… Beyond the layer of white. White raven come to me. Lonely in the darkened sky Above the clouds flying so high. Looking over all he's done Before the coming of the sun. As twilight takes in the dark The white raven leaves only one mark… A vapor of breath Soon gone… White raven come to me.
