Matthew & Stephanie’s Love Story

A Modern Love, Written by God.

Matthew and Stephanie’s story began in a modern way and unfolded with divine timing. Stephanie was finishing her bachelor’s degree and dreaming of moving to Nashville to continue her journalism career. By 2022, she had traveled widely and embraced life fully as a single woman ready to date with intention. Though adventurous and fulfilled, the hopeless romantic in her often wondered when and where she would meet “the one.” Matthew moved from New York City to Hollywood in 2020 to further pursue his acting career, confident he knew his path in the movie industry. What he didn’t know was that the most important role of his life wouldn’t be on a screen at all. By 2022, he was living a full life: acting in movies, church and charity work, men’s groups, surfing on weekends, world travel. He was happy and free, yet something was missing — a best friend. Then, on December 23, 2022, through a dating app, Stephanie and Matthew exchanged their first texts. The next day, Stephanie sent a selfie of her with a horse she met on a quiet Northern California hike in the redwoods. Matthew replied with a still frame from the movie he was currently watching, It’s a Wonderful Life. Looking back, they see it as God giving them a preview of what was to come. That simple exchange sparked something extraordinary, and Matthew immediately asked her out. Their first date was December 28th at The Dresden Restaurant & Lounge, an iconic Hollywood steakhouse with old-Hollywood charm. Stephanie entered and briefly panicked when an older bald man waved at her. Thinking she’d been catfished, she texted Matthew to meet her outside. Moments later, he appeared, opened the door, and greeted her with the warmest, most genuine smile, the kind that still melts her heart. Matthew will always remember seeing her standing there — elegant, vibrant, wearing a fur coat like a 1950s movie star. That night, they talked and laughed for hours. Despite not eating meat for over a year, Matthew spontaneously ordered the Tomahawk steak for them to share. When Stephanie mentioned she’d always wanted to try an escape room, Matthew didn’t hesitate; he booked one on the spot. Inside that room, amid puzzles and playful challenges, they shared their first kiss. From that night on they were inseparable. Dates quickly turned into adventures. Museum days at LACMA filled with playful photos, hikes, road trips, long conversations, shared prayers and dreams. They discovered they were equally adventurous, creative, a little quirky — and perfectly matched. Life soon intertwined in beautiful ways. They traveled to Thailand and Guatemala, creating unforgettable memories. Matthew adopted Stephanie’s dog, Luna, and together they welcomed another dog, Sonnyboy. They built a cozy home full of love, laughter, and faith, praying together, reading the Bible, and serving their community. They became not just partners, but teammates — best friends. Their journey hasn’t been without challenges. Like all meaningful love stories, there were moments that required patience, healing, and faith. At times the road felt uncertain. But instead of walking away, they chose each other again and again. They chose willingness, open-mindedness, and honesty. They chose growth. They chose God. They chose love. Early on, Matthew recited Robert Frost’s poem The Road Not Taken, wondering if they had chosen the harder path. Now, they smile at that memory, knowing the “rocky road” led them exactly where they were meant to be. Today, Stephanie and Matthew are proud of the life they are building — rooted in faith, service, love, and intentionality. They cherish their families, dogs, and their friends. Above all, they thank God for guiding them to one another. They share the love of George and Mary Bailey, which is what they were each looking for on that evening of December 23rd, 2022 — a love that is joyful, steadfast, and perfectly written. This is their story: a modern love story, written by God, and only just beginning
