If you ask Elle, it was Matthew's genuine smile and obvious goofiness that jumped off the page in his profile picture. If you ask Matthew, it was how cute Elle looked in her Christmas jammies. Still, though, we didn't neglect to read the fine print: 100 miles between the two of us was a daunting obstacle. But curiosity (and maybe a little stubborn optimism) got the best of us. The rest is history... After swiping right and matching back in January of 2023, we spent several weeks getting to know each other through texts, snap chats, and FaceTime calls. Eventually, texts turned into meetups, and meetups into weekends full of laughter, exploring, and learning each other’s quirks. We only wish we would have counted the miles we spent driving to and from Akron and Pittsburgh so that we'd have a cool number to report to all of you. Don't worry, though, we did prepare an estimate: 13,600 miles. We've done our fair share of reflecting on the long-distance era of our relationship, and we’ve come to a few important conclusions: 1. God Bless Ford Escapes. Seriously, Matthew's car should have given out on him by March of 2023. If Upward won't sponsor our wedding, Ford should. 2. Pittsburgh > Akron 3. Cleveland > Pittsburgh 4. Love truly knows no distance. In seriousness, though, we count the distance as a huge blessing and though we're happy to be done with it, we recognize the way it helped us grow as individuals and as a couple. We even dare make this statement: long distance is a lot like working in customer service - everyone should have to do it at least once. The miles between us made us cherish the moments together. Now, we are settled into our non-long-distance days here in Copley, Ohio, and we're enjoying every moment of engagement! We love cooking meals together, traveling near and far (we still frequent Pittsburgh for the Fiori's and Carnegie Coffee breakfast sandwich - IYKYK), catching happy hour, and soaking in every football season from kickoff to overtime. And yes - we’re often that couple who unapologetically pulls out a deck of cards at the bar. We are anxiously counting down to the Big Day!
Who made the first move? How? Matthew! He sent the first message and he made the first drive! How did he propose? On top of the observation tower over-looking Lake Erie after an Easter Egg Hunt for Arlo, Elle's nephew. Elle's whole family was there, and her dad captured the moment. What's the best meal you have eaten together? Buffalo wings, like from Buffalo. If you know, you know. Shout out to Duff's. A life goal of ours Visit all of the National Parks! Elle would like to start in Maine at Acadia, but Matthew's vote is Glacier Bay. Help us out here. Something we both take pride in Our home football teams... at this point we each have fan gear for both teams, but at the end of the day, Elle's wearing orange and Matthew's wearing blue, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Go Brownies! Go Bills!
