Travel Note
San Gregorio da Sassola is a quaint town, less than an hour from Rome. Consisting of under 2,000 people and comprised of medieval and modern elements, this commune is a hidden gem in the heart of Italy's Lazio region. Wander the cobbled streets, stop in to Ida's for a pint, or explore the olive groves nearby - just be sure to avoid the "Mad Baker" selling her pretzels and wine. If you wish to drive, be wary of the winding roadways, blind corners, and single toll route you will need to take (though it should be less than €5). Italy has extremely reasonable rentals, though Rome can be tricky to navigate. Our venue recommends driving if you are proficient, so believe in yourself! For peace of mind - particularly after travelling overseas - taxis are also available via itTaxi or Uber minutes before you wish to depart. If this is the route you choose, our venue has also volunteered to reserve taxis for your way back after checkout. Please be sure to give at least 3 days notice if this is required, as taxis do not mill about San Gregorio and will need to come from Tivoli or Rome. Please be sure to book your accommodation through Matt and/or Dakota, as all hotels in the area have been set aside for our group at a special rate, but must be paid by the planner all at once. Rooms will be in the Castle itself, hotel, medieval town, or nearby villas and will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis.
Travel Note
For those of you across the sea who wish to come to "Cowtown", it's a pretty simple route. Direct trips are available from most major European cities, including Rome, London, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Paris. Once you are in Calgary, opt for an Uber or taxi directly to your hotel, or rent a car from the airport to explore the region. Keep in mind that Calgary is large, and is oft thought to be a "driving city". If you wish to explore the downtown core, consider trips to the Calgary Tower or Major Tom for panoramic vistas. Breathtaking sites like the Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Canmore, and Drumheller are a short drive, though tours can also be arranged to see these locales with a guide. Any Calgarian is happy to offer advice, but you can also consider the below for a starting point: Restaurants - Bridgette Bar, Major Tom, Deville Cafe, Villa Firenze, Lina's Italian Deli, Embarcadero Shopping - 17th Avenue, The Core & Stephen Avenue, CrossIron Mills, Kensington, Calgary Farmers Market (Thurs-Sun) Attractions - The Devonian Gardens (at The Core), Heritage Park, Calgary Flames games (at the Scotiabank Saddledome), WinSport & Canada Hockey Hall of Fame, Canmore & Banff (mountain villages), Drumheller (home of plenty of dinosaurs), Marda Loop, Kensington
