Travel

After years of traveling to and from Nantucket, we are pros in this category. If you need any help in planning how to get to the island, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Flight

Boston Logan International Airport

You can definitely fly into Nantucket, but the last leg of the journey can be expensive! The most popular option for islanders is to fly into Boston (or Providence), and then rent a car or take a bus to Hyannis Port and take the Hyline Ferry or Steamship Ferry to Nantucket.

Flight

T.F. Green (Providence) International Airport

You can definitely fly into Nantucket, but the last leg of the journey can be expensive! Another popular option for islanders (and Matt's favorite option) is to fly into Providence (Rhode Island), and then rent a car or take a bus to Hyannis Port and take the Hyline Ferry or Steamship Ferry to Nantucket. The distance here is the same as the distance from Boston, and it's a smaller airport! So it really just comes down to what price you can get.

Flight

Nantucket Airport

If you're a fan of the television show Wings, it's based off of the Nantucket Airport! But don't get your hopes up, it looks nothing like it did on the show. If you decide to fly all the way through to the island, you can connect through Boston or Providence and likely will need to fly on Cape Air the rest of the way. Cape Air are small but fun and popular planes (we're taking 14 seats...congrats if you get to sit co-pilot!), and you'll get a great view of the island down below!

Travel Note

Taking a Bus from Boston/Providence to Hyannis.

This is a very popular option to get to the ferry! Taking a bus from either Boston Logan or T-F Green (Providence) Airports is super easy and affordable (no more than $30 each way). We both used to do it all the time, and it's a nice way to enjoy the Cape Cod scenery en route to Hyannis. Once you arrive in Hyannis, you'll hop on a ferry over to Nantucket. Check out the ferry section of this page for more info on that!

Travel Note

Ferries from Hyannis to Nantucket

Make your way to Hyannis if you want to take a ferry to Nantucket. It is the only location for Nantucket ferries at this time of year. We would recommend booking your ferry ahead of time, but you might be able to do day-of reservations. Taking the ferry is a fun experience (and there's food and beer and hot chocolate on board!) There are two options for ferries... Hyline Ferry (https://hylinecruises.com) The Hyline offers one-hour ferries to and from Nantucket. Steamship Ferry (https://www.steamshipauthority.com) There is a traditional ferry (aka the slow boat) that takes about two hours to get to Nantucket. There is also a high speed ferry that is a one-hour ferry ride.

House Or Rental

House Rentals

A great way to stay especially if there are multiple people in your group. Use Airbnb, Vrbo, or HomeAway to find your perfect Nantucket home.

Rental Car

Do I need a rental car?

If you stay downtown, you won't need a rental car. However, if you want to rent one to explore the island...it might be worth it! There are so many great corners of Nantucket to experience. Also, if you stay mid-island, we might recommend a rental car. Feel free to ask us about this!
