Matt and Virginia met on Match.com in 2010, back when it was still cool. Her screenname was “banjobabe89.” He wore jorts on their first date. Through love, they overcame these obstacles. They built a relationship over time with a strong foundation of compassion, understanding, humor, and tiny animal bones. They are deeply in love, and not just because no one else would have them.
In December 2018, our heroes got into a (rare) argument. Virginia may have been a little bit drunk following a Big Lebowski-Themed burlesque show (that, tragically, was not called “the Big Laboobski”) and asked Matt the dreaded question, “why don’t you want to be my wife?!” Confused and angry, Matt came home and spite-bought Virginia the engagement ring she had always wanted. Being a good and considerate partner who values Virginia’s feelings (and his own life), Matt spent the next 3 months planning the perfect proposal. He worked with their mutual friends to fabricate a “Dungeons & Dragons” weekend in Lexington. She had no idea. He did good. On March 10th, 2019, in front of a sweeping mountain vista and a small cadre of nerds spying from the sidelines, he finally popped the question. His proposal began with “I’ve been lying to you for months,” and ended with “will you join me on Skullcrusher Mountain?” Obviously, she said yes.
