ASAP - Steamboat is a very popular small mountain town. Rooms are usually booked out months in advance. If you wait too long you have to pay a higher price for a hotel. Please note: many hotels will have a two night minimum.
The guest attire for wedding day is Formal (suits, formal gowns, sophisticated cocktail dresses, or dressy separates). A light jacket or sweater is recommended as it can get chilly at night in the mountains. The ceremony will be on grass, so wedges or flats are recommended.
As much as we love and adore your children, this is an adults-only event. Take this as an opportunity to get away and spend some quality time with your significant other!
The ceremony and reception are located in the middle of the mountain village. Given its ease of access, transportation will not be provided to the village. Please keep that in mind when booking your accommodations. We recommend staying at the hotel block location or booking a rental near the gondola as opposed to near downtown.
Water! You will need to work harder to stay hydrated at higher elevation and avoid altitude sickness. The UV radiation will also be stronger so we recommend hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen. There is always a short sprinkling of rain in the afternoon so bring a light rain jacket (no umbrella needed). The weather can change quickly so we recommend having layers available. Steamboat is lush with wildlife so you’ll want your camera (but please put it away during the ceremony).
At higher altitudes, your body takes in less oxygen due to the decrease in air pressure. Lower oxygen levels causes your breathing and heart rate to increase as your body works harder to take in oxygen. You may experience symptoms such as headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue, etc. To prevent altitude sickness, drink lots of water before and during your trip and ascend to higher elevations slowly. If you are prone to altitude sickness, consider spending a day or two in Denver (5280 ft) before coming to Steamboat (6732 ft). The treatment for altitude sickness is to descend to a lower elevation, drink lots of water, and avoid caffeine and alcohol. Your symptoms will usually subside within a few hours and mostly disappear within a day or so.
