One of our all time favorite hikes! It is challenging and 8-9 miles round trip and requires a short walk across large boulders, but the view is worth it.
This is a great trailhead in Anchorage with spectacular views. There's a trail for everyone here. Climb to the top of Flattop Mountain, hike back Powerline Trail, or walk around the Blueberry Hill nature trail for beautiful views of Anchorage and Cook Inlet. On clear days you can get great views of Denali up here.
Bird Ridge is a challenging, but beautiful and rewarding hike along Turnagain Arm. We try to get up this ridge at least once a year.
Easier hike through the forest in Girdwood. We love taking visitors on this hike!
Eagle River is just 15 minutes north of Anchorage. We recommend heading out to the Nature Center for a beautiful nature walk back the Eagle River valley! Bring Bear spray!
Cute Alaskan town with Denali views. Stop by the Fairview for some live music in the evenings. There's always people around with epic stories from being raft guides to climbing Denali.
Martie's home town. Its a scenic 6 hour drive from Anchorage, but its got fishing, glacier cruises, and amazing views! If you have the time, check it out! Highly recommend a glacier cruise with Stan Stephens Cruises or a fishing charter while you’re down there!
Want the glacier cruises and beautiful scenery, but don't want to drive all 5 hours to Valdez? This is your next best option! Stop by The Lone Chicharron while you're there for some DELICIOUS tacos (best in the state according to Martie).
We'd have to say Whittier might be Alaska's strangest town...or at least top 5. Roughly one hour south of Anchorage and through a tunnel (toll fee to enter), you arrive in Whittier. Almost all residents in that town live in the same building (though locals will tell you its three buildings, we'll let you look at it and decide). There's plenty of glacier cruises and fishing charters that leave out of Whittier if that is something you're interested in. Highly recommend eating some fried halibut at Swiftwater Cafe. Also, consider catching the ferry along the Alaska Marine Highway to Valdez!
Quick 45 minute drive from Anchorage along Turnagain Arm. Its a beautiful drive and Girdwood is a great town for some hikes, ice cream, and a brewery. Check out the Nordic Spa at Alyeska if you have the time, it’s amazing! We also recommend driving roughly 10 miles passed Girdwood to visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center to see the animals! Highly recommend!
One of Sean and Martie's favorite breweries in town!
Another top pick for a local brewery!
Go say hi to Sean and grab a coffee while you're in town!
Our favorite ice cream spot!
There are several beautiful bike trails in town: Coastal Trail, Campbell Creek Trail, and Chester Creek Trail. There's several Bike Rental shops in town to choose from, but here's one of them.
