Flight
This is the Bay Area's largest airport, and most direct flight options will fly in and out of SFO. You can get to central Berkeley/Oakland from SFO in just over an hour via BART. Alternatively, an Uber will cost between $30 - $60 and will take an average of 40 minutes.
Flight
Oakland's regional airport is only 30 minutes by BART or 20 minutes by car to central Berkeley/Oakland. If you can easily flight right into OAK, go for it! Otherwise, don't be worried about flying into SFO - it isn't too far from action.
Hotel
We have blocked a number of Deluxe King and Deluxe Double (2 double beds) rooms at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza in downtown Berkeley. This is where we will be staying! The hotel has guaranteed our guests a discounted rate of $219/night. To get that rate, you need to book online by going to our specific bookings page (not the regular hotel site!). Click "view" below to be taken there. Or, if you plan to stay for more than two nights, or would prefer to speak with a human, phone the hotel and mention the Buller-Juhas wedding block.
Hotel
The Bancroft Hotel is a lovely boutique inn right across from UC Berkeley. It is a historic building with lots of character. It is only 2 stories tall and has just 22 rooms, but beware - it does not have an elevator. We have blocked a limited number of queen rooms at a discounted rate of $149/night. To book, phone the hotel and mention the Buller-Juhas wedding.
House Or Rental
The East Bay has tons of fantastic private rental options for places to stay via Airbnb and VRBO. To ensure that you are near all the action, we would suggest staying in South Berkeley or North Oakland. The neighborhoods of Temescal, Rockridge, Bushrod, or Elmwood in Oakland are all great options. See the above map that we have created to help guide you - the areas that we would most recommend fall within the red outline.
Hotel
If the Shattuck and Bancroft aren't your jam, there are many other affordable hotel options in the area. We can recommend the Super 8 on University Avenue (where we spent our first night in Berkeley...awwww...). There is also a Travelodge and Quality Inn along the same strip. All are within walking distance of the Shattuck and Bancroft Hotels.
Travel Note
Although we have blocked rooms, we highly recommend booking early. The numbers are limited, and October is a very busy time in the Bay Area (sun! sports! wine harvest!). As soon as you know whether you will be staying in one of our blocked hotels, or in an Airbnb or VRBO, lock it in!
Travel Note
Roberts Regional Park (where the ceremony will take place) is located within Oakland's city limits, and so it is quite easy to get there from the hotel via car, Lyft, or Uber. The drive is around 15 minutes long. To avoid the vehicle fee, have your driver drop you off at the gate and walk to the Bay Vista site (around 100 yards - or metres, for Canadians!). If you drive there yourself, there is tons of parking at Roberts Regional Park for a small fee.
Travel Note
Getting to the Reception: We recommend taking an Uber or Lyft from Roberts Regional Park to Temescal Brewing, which is only 15 minutes away, as parking can be a hassle. If you do choose to drive yourself, street parking is first come, first serve. Alternatively, you can park at the MacArthur BART station just a few blocks south of the brewery.
