Well... it's a funny story. Marian & Rick had been searching for a place in the Ann Arbor/Detroit area (where Rick is from) and the Philadelphia area (where Marian is from) which really captured their artistic sensibilities (Rick is an actor, director and playwright, Marian a visual artist and writer), a place full of history and personality. While visiting Buffalo to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Marian's close friends Ann and Angel Rivera, they came upon the Hotel Lafayette and fell in love with it! Marian said "I could get married in a place like this" and Rick said "why not get married IN THIS PLACE?" Turns out the history of the hotel is fascinating, designed by the 1st professional woman architect in the U.S., Louise Blanchard Bethune. It went from a place where Presidents stayed (FDR, Wilson), to a flophouse, before rising from the ashes with a historic renovation in 2012. https://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2013/09/11/how-buffalos-lafayette-hotel-went-from-fleabag-to-fabulous/
