How to get there

Coimbra is located in the center of Portugal, between Lisbon and Porto. Train connections to Coimbra are good, so you might not need to rent a car. If you plan to join us on Sunday in Coja a car will be necessary but we can help you organize transport or carpooling options!

Flight

Airports

Lisbon Airport (LIS) - Located in the heart of the city of Lisbon, this is the main airport in Portugal and there are direct flights from most of the main cities in the world (including Chicago!). You can rent a car at the airport in Lisbon or take a quick 10 minute Uber/taxi ride to the station and zip off by train to Coimbra! It's located 200km/120miles away. Porto Airport (OPO) - This is the second biggest airport in Portugal and is located outside of the city of Porto (approx. 20 mins to the main train station by Uber/taxi/bus). There are direct flights from many cities in Europe and it's the main hub of Ryanair in Portugal. It's located 125km/80miles north of Coimbra. If you have flight options here it is the most convenient, least stressful travel option. Airport Shuttle to/from Coimbra area: coimbra@airportshuttle.pt | +351 304 505 304 The price is approx. 40-45 EUR/Pax to Lisbon Airport and 30-35 EUR/Pax to Porto Airport. A link to the website to make the booking is included below.

Train

Trains to Coimbra

There are two types of train: the Alfa Pendular (faster, more expensive) and Intercidades (slower, cheaper). Train rides from Lisbon to Coimbra take about 2h and from Porto to Coimbra about 1h. You can take the train from two stations in Lisbon: Oriente (next to the airport) or Santa Apolonia (closer to downtown Lisbon). The main station in Porto is called Campanhã. In Coimbra the station is called "Coimbra-B". For timetables, please visit the website below or download the app "CP".

While we won't providing shuttle services from downtown Coimbra to the venue, you can take easily an Uber or use the contact list below: PoliTaxis: +351 239 499 090 | https://www.politaxis.pt/ Taxis Lucas: +351 963 057 555 Taxis Americo: +351 919 374 614 There is plenty of parking available at the wedding venue for those who drive.

Travel Note

Car Rental

Car rental is always an option in Portugal, though please note that automatic transmission is not as common in Portugal as in the USA. A foreign driving license is accepted, but drivers need to be at least 18 years old. At Lisbon airport, Avis, Europcar, Goldcar, Guerin, Hertz and Sixt are located inside Lisbon airport's terminal. Be careful, as all other companies are only reachable by long, infrequent shuttle bus rides.
