Our Story

It all started in Social and Economic Determinants of Health class, when our eyes met during a group discussion. Afterwards, we both headed to our next class early and, what do you know, we ended up alone in the room, waiting for it to start. Margot broke the ice with some not-so-smooth small talk and, before long, invited Muhammad to play pick up beach volleyball in Central Park. Two days later, there he was — arms and legs flailing in the sand — on a sweltering 90-degree day while fasting for Ramadan. He may not have won any matches, but he was beginning to win her heart. After getting thoroughly dehydrated, we wandered through Central Park at the height of cherry blossom season, chatting about our shared love of mangos, snowboarding, and everything in between. We explored the city together, biking home from concerts in Brooklyn all the way to the Upper West Side at 5:00 a.m., and walking from Midtown clear up to Washington Heights. After graduating from our master’s program, we decided to start a new adventure in Alaska, where Muhammad grew up. Since then, we’ve been playing in the snow, grabbing grocery store sushi after workouts, and proudly wearing Birkenstocks in all weather conditions. We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate our love and the next chapter of our lives with all of our favorite people.
