In May 2023, Maggie and Fernando met through a very sophisticated compatibility algorithm—Facebook Dating. For those who have never heard of it, Facebook rolled out a dating app component where you could match with others on Facebook without your "friends" being included in the options. Fernando, living in Chicago, IL, thought his chances of meeting people were good. He decided to put a 5 mile radius on his settings. This would give preference to people who lived within the 5 miles. Maggie, living in Fond du Lac, WI, thought she better broaden her search. She will deny it, but she put something of 100 miles as her radius. Somehow, Fernando matched with Maggie who lived 150 miles away and he sent her a message. Maggie saw that Fernando lived in Chicago, but she had recently started dating again. She thought he was cute in his pictures and liked his bio. She thought to herself, if nothing else comes from it, she could use the practice with talking to guys again. Fernando and Maggie started messaging back and forth. Before long, it let to detailed phone calls and the opportunity to video chat. We started officially dating around Memorial Day 2023 before even seeing each other in person. The following week, we had our first date on June 4, 2023 in South Milwaukee, WI. Fernando took the Amtrak up to Milwaukee but his return trip got canceled. So our first date lasted just over 6 hours. Luckily, it was a good date! We're excited to take our story back to South Milwaukee and get married!
