Sometimes, someone comes into your life, so unexpectedly, takes your heart by surprise and changes everything.... It isn't every day that you find true love TWICE, but that's our story. Rich was married to Lyn for 34 happy years and raised three wonderful children together in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He dedicated his 37 year career to SPIN, a non-profit in Philadelphia serving people with intellectual disabilities and autism, retiring in June 2021 after serving 20 years as CIO & COO. Marcia, a native of Pittsburgh, spent 15 years with her late husband, Richard, growing a robust residential construction and vacation rental business along the Delaware Shore. She owns and continues to manage that business. Marcia also had a 20 plus year career in Business Intelligence, retiring after owning her own firm for almost 10 years. Both lost their beloved partners far too young. But life had an amazing adventure in store for both of them. A second chance. Love, part duex. For Marcia, that adventure began as an assignment from someone helping her through her loss, three years after the fact: Post a profile on Match.com. She hesitantly complied, but kept the profile hidden, feeling safer to only share with people she reached out to. Glancing through profiles, she was immediately struck by Rich's smile. To her, it simply radiated kindness....she wanted to know more. She dropped him a note along with her profile. He didn't respond, but she felt compelled to try again. There was just something in her gut that said, he's special, try again. She did, writing, "We both share a deep mutual experience in life, having loved so deeply and having lost someone you cherished so much. We are both so lucky to know what a great relationship looks and feels like." She ended with a simple sign off: "Sweet Smiles." That did it for Rich. He was overwhelmed and impressed by Marcia's outreach and the heart felt profile she shared with him. He read it over and over again before finally responding to her. He later confided that he actually questioned whether Marcia's profile was "real," or if it was a hoax submitted by a ghost writer ("So well written, so thoughtful, so many adjectives and adverbs -- who writes like this?," he said!). He was reluctant to reach out due to their geographical distance, but decided to give it a chance. Their first conversation happened on a Sunday afternoon in January. Rich was planning to watch NFL Wild Card football on TV that afternoon. Five hours later, he had missed all the games, had a warm beer on the coffee table and completely missed dinner, but he walked away from that call wondering, "What just happened??" Then, he thought, "I can't wait to meet this person!"
