On July 12th, 2020, in the midst of a global pandemic, while the world was mostly shut down, two strangers' lives forever changed off the North Carolina coast. Maraya's plans to spend the weekend in Napa Valley for her friend's bachelorette party were derailed by travel restrictions and lockdowns. Instead Maraya and her friends opted for a remote getaway to Cape Lookout, an undeveloped barrier island. It was the perfect choice-no crowds, no businesses, just sand, sun and friends. That same weekend, Doug and his friends had rented a cabin on Cape Lookout to get away, go fishing, and enjoy some time at the beach. Maraya and Doug never crossed paths during the trip. However, when Maraya and her three best friends arrived at the ferry dock to head home Sunday morning, they found the ferry had already left. Shortly after, Doug showed up early for his ferry (a rare occurrence for him) and offered to help. He suggested that they take his ferry back and he could give them a ride to their car once back on the mainland. After parting ways, Doug realized he hadn't asked Maraya for her number and may never see her again. A few days later Doug found her on Instagram and after several DM's they planned their first date- a hike at the lake with their dogs. Since meeting on Cape Lookout, Maraya and Doug have shared many milestones, from career changes to buying and renovating their first home. -Cape Lookout holds a special place in our hearts since it is where we met, got engaged, and have made lasting memories fishing and relaxing with our friends. Our first trip together was spent camping on Portsmouth Island, the next island up from Cape Lookout. It was only fitting to choose Ocracoke for our wedding since is the next island up the Outer Banks from Portsmouth. We are excited to have our friends and family join us to celebrate our marriage and begin another chapter of our lives as we continue to make memories along the Outer Banks! Cheers, Maraya and Doug
