How we Met

Andrew Brod and Mandy Brasher's love story began in 2013 at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. Thanks to their "Br" last names, they often found themselves sitting next to each other at alphabetically-ordered events. After two years of friendship, Andrew took a chance and asked Mandy out. She initially said no, not feeling ready to date at the time. However, while home for winter break, Mandy found herself missing him and felt ready to move forward. She texted Andrew to ask her out again when she returned to Kentucky. He did. From that moment on, they've been inseparable. Their relationship blossomed through shared experiences and adventures. They enjoyed margaritas at their favorite neighborhood Mexican restaurant in Lexington, explored bourbon distilleries, and spent days at Keeneland. Family trips to Hawaii and Disney World added to their collection of memories, as did a trip to Idaho where Andrew rode horses and sorted cattle for the first time. A significant milestone was when Mandy's cat, Justice, moved into Andrew's house – a clear sign things were getting serious. After Mandy’s initial hesitation to start dating, she was the first to say ‘I love you.’ Their journey wasn't without its challenges. At the end of medical school, they attempted to couples match into residency but were unsuccessful. This led to a period of long- distance, with Mandy in Tampa, FL, and Andrew spending a year in Ann Arbor, MI before moving to Gainesville, FL. Despite the distance between them, they remained committed to each other, making time for visits and discovering new favorite spots together. They even found their signature cocktail, the "Go Bananas" at Edison Food Lab in Tampa, which became a staple in their home. As they navigated through residency, fellowship, and eventually settling in Dallas, TX, Andrew and Mandy's bond only grew stronger. They've added a Pomsky puppy named Victor to their family, a nod to both the University of Michigan's fight song, "Hail to the Victors," and Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman. They enjoy spending time with Mandy's sister and nephews nearby, exploring the Dallas restaurant scene, and cheering for the Dallas Stars and Texas Rangers. As they approach their wedding in February 2025, just shy of their 10-year anniversary, Andrew and Mandy reflect on the strong foundation they've built. Their relationship is characterized by a shared sense of humor, independent spirits, quiet kindness, and mutual respect. They complement each other perfectly, with Andrew managing the household logistics and cooking amazing dinners, while Mandy keeps their home clean, organized, and beautifully landscaped. From medical school seatmates to life partners, Andrew and Mandy's story is a testament to the power of friendship, dedication, and love. They're excited to celebrate their journey and commitment with friends and family and look forward to the many years of happiness that lie ahead.
