Travel Note
[RECOMMENDED] A Limousine Bus runs regular services between Kyoto Station’s Hachijo-guchi southern exit and Kansai Airport. The bus departing from Kansai Airport also makes stops at several other locations in Kyoto after Kyoto Station. At Kansai Airport you can board buses at bus stop 8 on the first floor of Terminal 1, and bus stop 1 at Terminal 2. Ticket windows are open by these bus stops at which you can buy tickets. Tickets cannot be reserved and boarding is on a first-come first-served basis.
Travel Note
[RECOMMENDED] ICOCA is a contactless travel card which works on JR, subway, private railway and buses in Kyoto. You can purchase this card in advance of your trip. It’s one of the cheapest ways to get around the Kyoto transport system.
Travel Note
Kyoto has two subway lines: Karasuma line (north-south) and Tozai line (east-west). Service hour is 5:30-23:30. The underground sections of the Hankyu and Keihan railways can also be used to cover short distances quickly in the city.
Travel Note
[closest stop to the venue is Gion-shijyo on Keihan line or Kawaramachi on Hankyu line] Kyoto is connected to Osaka and Nara. You can travel to Kobe (our hometown) via Osaka. If you have a specific place in your mind, let us know. We will help you to plan a trip while you are in Japan.
Travel Note
Kyoto’s bus system is incredibly extensive. You can get almost anywhere by bus if you know where to board and which bus to board. In Kyoto, you enter the bus from the back, exit and pay at the front. The city bus fare is 230 yen with a designated central area in the city. The fare increases as the bus travels further outside the designated area.
Travel Note
Taxis are plentiful and reasonably priced in Kyoto. And when you have three or four people, they can be a good value. They also allow you to cover a lot of ground fast and they can be used to connect areas that aren’t well served by public transport (eg: to go from Arashiyama to Kinkaku-ji Temple).
Travel Note
Kyoto regularly appears on lists of the world’s best bicycle cities. It’s flat, the weather is usually good for cycling, and drivers are relatively sane. For details on exploring Kyoto by bicycle (including where to rent a cycle), see below.
Travel Note
Kyoto is a brilliant place to explore on foot. For details on walking in Kyoto, see the Kyoto Walking Itineraries page below.
