Mami and Jun met at a workshop. There were a bunch of researchers exchanging business cards. A mutual friend introduced them and they exchanged business cards and Facebook and didn’t think much of it. Fast forward 4months, Mami saw Jun’s funny Facebook post. She decided to message and invite him for a spicy Chinese dinner (she wanted to try this restaurant soo badly and was simply looking for a companion). So her very first message to him after the party was ‘Hey! do you like spicy food?! ’ (Yes, for real) Over the deliciouses Mabo-tofu, as they swapped stories and life anecdotes for few hours, one thing became abundantly clear: the tone of the conversation did not feel like they were getting to know each other. A year After the very first dinner, they are now engaged and getting ready to take a vows. “Life has a funny way of bringing people together when they least expect it”
Three days before Mami’s flight to the US, (for 6 months abroad study in Illinois) Jun planned a special night out. He took her to Oriental Hotel in Kobe. After a romantic dinner, he ordered something in a room service. It was a strawberry cake with ‘Will you marry me?’ on. She said ‘YES’ and they were engaged just before the long distance romance. “We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you.” See you all in Kyoto!
