Take a stroll through East Hampton Village about 10 minutes from the Springs- get your shopping fix in and maybe even a Martha sighting. Walk down to see the pond and town green/cemetary. Don't forget to check out the Ladies Village Improvement Society (LVIS) for the most awesome "thrift" store you will ever encounter...
Perennially listed in the top 10 US beaches- visit Main Beach in East Hampton about 15 minutes from the Springs. Get a snack at the iconic cafe and amble down the beach for a view on the best 19th century oceanfront mansions in the Georgica section of East Hampton. Take a drive down Lily Pond Lane for a tour of old East Hampton mansions complete with privets, pass Spielberg's digs by the pond and end up at Grey Gardens.
Our own little Farmer's market in the heart of Springs. Some great local vendors. live music, our Springs library right across the street and there's always an art show in Ashawagh Hall. We never miss it... Saturday 9a-1p
The man that put the Springs on the artistic map- Jack the Dripper as my stepdad used to call him. In the heart of the Springs, visit Pollock/Krasner House to see their studios and house preserved from when he and Lee lived there until their respective deaths. Peggy Guggenheim loaned the couple the down payment on the $5,000 property in 1945, and provided a $300/mo stipend for them to live on. In exchange, she received almost his entire artistic output for that period! Get a tour from the knowledgable staff and see the landscape overlooking the Accabonac Creek that inspired his work. $15/adult - Reservation required. It can sell out in the summer so book early
In the Springs, visit the museum and gardens of the home and studio of Judith Leiber and her husband Gerson. Packed with examples of her exquisite handbags and his haunting paintings tell the story of their 60 year partnership capped with their dying within hours of each other. $20/adult suggested donation
About 35 minutes from the Springs, the first lighthouse in the US commissioned by George Washington in 1792. On a clear day, views of Block Island, Rhode Island and the Connecticut coast across the Block Island Sound- Striped Bass fishing mecca and the Great White Shark breeding grounds. Stop by the adjacent Camp Hero with its dilapidated satellite dish and boarded-up barracks that are reputed to be the real inspiration for Stranger Things. Hit up the t-shirt shops in Montauk village (you'll drive right through), take note of the infamous Memory Motel, then stop for lunch at our fave, the Clam Bar (2025 Montauk Hwy, Amagansett, NY 11930) halfway back to East Hampton in Napeague. No reservations
Delicious upscale Mexican with indoor and outdoor dining. The Fluke Veracruz is my favorite, Mala always gets the clams... a bit pricey and can get loud inside. Res required
