FAQs

Question

Can I park my car at the beach?

Answer

With a few caveats, no. You can't park without a beach parking pass at any of the ocean or bay beaches. Seriously, it's $150 fine and they load up on patrols in the summer. Here are the options: 1.- Atlantic Beach in Amagansett (at the end of Atlantic Drive) has limited spots available at $50/day. Get there early before they sell out- like before 10 is my guess. 2. Lazy Point in Napeague is a hidden gem bay beach famous for kiteboarding/windsurfing. You can park on the right side on Lazy Point Road before the No Parking Sign. It's a short walk to where they launch. 3. I have a couple vehicles that have beach passes available to the highest bidder.😝 4. Uber/Lyft/Local Taxi. I use these guys: TEJADOR TAXI (631) 830-7012 5. Bicycles; I have a couple, some rental houses/hotels have them and there's a bike shop in Amagansett that rents them. It's 5 miles to from my house to Atlantic Beach, 3 miles to Flaggy Hole Beach and 3 miles to Louse Point Beach. Mostly flat.

Question

What's the best beach to go to?

Answer

There are a lot of options for beach time- Ocean Beaches and Bay Beaches. The ocean beaches facing the south shore are all sand, have lifeguards, amenities and food trucks. There are often whale and dolphin sightings. Swimming is good, but the water will still be pretty chilly. Atlantic and Indian Wells in Amagansett are the closest. Main Beach in East Hampton Village is iconic, but requires a special parking permit. The surfers hit Ditch Plains in Montauk. The Bay Beaches are closer to home and quite scenic. Mostly sand but can have rocky spots. No amenities, food, or lifeguards but the water will be warmer. Bring water shoes for swimming. The best swimming beach is Flaggy Hole Beach. Maidstone Park, Louse Point or Gardiner's Point are also faves especially for sunsets.
