John and Maggie met online through the dating app Hinge in December of 2019. Their first date was on January 7th, 2020 at DC Cobbs in Woodstock. Maggie was hesitant but agreed to go after a mutual friend promised that John would not murder her and was indeed of good character. They quickly shared a love for teaching, coaching, and the outdoors. What started out as casual drinks turned into a tour of every Mexican restaurant in the greater McHenry County area. Two and a half years later, they withstood a global pandemic, virtual teaching, job changes and much more. On a summer trip to Europe, John took Maggie on a treacherous walk through the city of Andorra la Vella. She was hungry, tired and pretty crabby. Eventually, they made it to their destination where John got down on one knee and proposed, with Maggie's grandmother's ring, on the Pont de la Margineda bridge. It was a beautiful setting and a very easy decision for Maggie. They then celebrated by taking another very long walk back to find food.
