Nearly a decade ago, she booked a flight out of Memphis to visit her polish cousin studying abroad in Wisconsin. He was about to enter into his senior year of high school, spending the summer surrounded by bonfires and the Lake Michigan breeze. They met on the 4th of July, joined by a group of friends headed for Summerfest in Milwaukee, and I guess you could say there were some fireworks. Now flash forward 4 years... Still distant friends, they reunited for an unforgettable weekend filled with water park fun, good food, and even better conversation. They quickly realized that this was it for them, their relationship was officially set in stone. Throughout the years they have shared addresses in both Wisconsin and Tennessee, hiked through the Smoky Mountains, and lounged on Florida's white sandy beaches. They've traveled across the Atlantic to stroll the gardens of the Schonbrunn Palace in Vienna and wander the grounds of the Wawel Castle in Krakow. They've spent nights in a Polish countryside sipping on local spirits with family and friends. Tom developed a romantic relationship with pierogi. Magda was introduced to cheese curds. Today, they can be found drinking endless amounts of coffee and spending hours discussing the world of medicine as their careers have grounded them in Tennessee. Now finally, Magda and Tom are ready to begin their greatest adventure yet!
We were standing on the front porch of her house, and it was everything we had ever imagined it to be. We were in our safe place, just the three of us, comfortable and at ease. We had just returned from a walk around the neighborhood with her dog, Zoe. It was a frigid and wet Memphis winter night. Throughout our walk, Magda kept trying to sneak her cold hands into my pockets in search for some warmth, but was unsuccessful every time. This was due to the fact that the ring I was getting ready to place on her finger was in those pockets. She was exceptionally talkative, or maybe I might have been exceptionally quiet. One thing I am certain of is that my mind was already standing on that porch waiting for us to return and begin the next chapter in our lives. The moment was unforgettable. After an eventful day filled with dead ends (that's an entirely different story on its' own), this evening was everything but. We cannot wait to celebrate our marriage with our closest friends and family, and the best views of Memphis the city has to offer. Don't forget to bring your dancing shoes, this will be one party we will never forget!
