Madison and Drew met during their first year of law school at SIU Carbondale, in a moment that felt ordinary at the time but would later feel anything but. They first crossed paths during their 1L composite photos, where a simple conversation started easily and naturally. As they talked, they discovered a surprising overlap in their lives: both spent time interning in Washington, D.C., Drew just a couple of years before Madison, walking many of the same streets and experiencing a chapter of life that, unbeknownst to either of them at the time, would later become something they shared in common. As they continued through law school in the same friend group, getting to know each other became effortless. A first date after pickleball turned into something steady, the kind of connection that made everything else feel a little less overwhelming. Somewhere along the way, they discovered a shared love for Destin, Florida, realizing that not only did they both vacation there growing up, but they had spent years unknowingly visiting the same restaurants, beaches, and familiar spots just minutes apart. What once felt like separate pieces of their lives began to connect in ways they couldn’t have planned. The places, the timing, the paths they had taken before meeting, all of it started to feel like it was quietly leading them to each other. That feeling came full circle in Destin itself, where Drew proposed in a place that already held so much shared history, turning a familiar destination into the beginning of their next chapter together. Now, as they look ahead to marriage, Madison and Drew feel grateful for what brought them together, and even more certain that, somehow, they were always meant to find each other along the way!
