We want to be as accommodating as possible for our wedding guests and understand that childcare can be an important consideration. Due to space limitations at our venue, we kindly ask that you please check in with us before making plans to bring children so we can see if we’re able to accommodate them. Yes, you may park directly at Markree Castle for both occasions.

We highly recommend renting a car for those traveling from out of the country. Markree Castle is approximately 2.5 hours from Dublin Airport. Markree Castle is about a 40-50 minute drive from Ireland West Airport Knock (Knock Airport). If you are traveling to do additional touring around Ireland, a rental car is required. For those exclusively staying in the Sligo area for the wedding festivities and who don't plan to do much sightseeing, there are a wide variety of buses and trains available in Ireland that would allow you to travel between major cities with relative ease (Dublin, Galway, Cork, Sligo etc.) Please contact the groom directly if you would like to discuss these options, or have additional questions.

The dress code for the welcome reception on the night before our wedding is cocktail attire. We invite guests to dress smartly and comfortably—think elegant dresses, dressy jumpsuits, or suits and blazers—as we gather for cocktails and light bites to kick off the wedding weekend at Markree Castle. Our wedding day will be a black-tie affair. Guests are invited to dress in formal evening wear—tuxedos or dark suits for gentlemen, and floor-length gowns or elegant cocktail dresses for ladies. While black and darker hues are always welcome, guests are encouraged to wear colors they feel confident and comfortable in; dresses need not be floor-length, as long as the overall look feels formal. We can’t wait to celebrate in style with you in such a timeless and romantic setting.

Hidden among the rolling green fields of County Sligo, Markree Castle has been quietly collecting stories for centuries. Long before it became the fairytale setting it is today, the land served as a strategic stronghold overlooking the River Unshin, with early fortifications dating back to medieval times. In 1663, the castle was granted to Edward Cooper, beginning more than 350 years of history under the care of the Cooper family. Generation after generation shaped Markree into a place of warmth, learning, and hospitality. In the 1800s, an observatory on the grounds housed one of the largest telescopes in the world, where astronomers discovered a new asteroid—adding a little stardust to the castle’s legacy. For us, choosing Ireland was deeply personal. Conor was born in Ireland, and the majority of his family still lives here, making this celebration not just a destination wedding, but a heartfelt homecoming. Celebrating at Markree Castle allows us to honor that connection while beginning our own chapter in a place rich with history and meaning. We feel incredibly lucky to begin our own happily ever after here.
